No more wobbling

I wrote a post a little while back about being all wobbly and that. You know, in the gut and man-boob areas. Because I like cake and things.

Well, that post has got a lot of rather random attention from people on Facebook (people I know, I must add); so I thought it was time for an update.

I have joined a gym. I go maybe three times a week now. I can run 4km in one go without dying; I may feel like I am dying, and most of the time I want to die, but I am yet to do so. I am “pumping iron” with much puffing and panting and popping veins in my face, even though the attractive bendy girls in the gym appear to be able to pump twice as much iron as me – and several men there appear to be able to put the machines on the highest settings and still move all the contraptions with nothing more than the power of their minds.

But I no longer wobble as much. I think I have maybe a month to go before I have the body I want. I have put on 2lbs in weight since starting, but my tummy is all flat now, so either the fat has moved to my brain or I am more muscular. In the right light you can almost see muscle on my arms. My moobs still bounce a tiny bit but if I throw my shoulders back, tense everything I can like I’m straining for a particularly heavy movement, and clench my teeth, then the potential for pecs can be seen. My legs are back to the firmness they had when I was fencing and cycling regularly. I think I fill the shoulders of my shirts just a little more than before.

Overall, I’m pretty happy with how it’s going. So happy, in fact, I’m foolishly going to do a 10k run in October, just after my birthday. And next year I hope to do a half marathon. I looked at triathlons, but you need to buy stupid amounts of equipment for that, so I’ve given up on that idea. I might splash out on some proper trainers at some point though.

So – over the last few months I’ve pretty much paid off all my debts (should be clear in a month), I had my teeth fixed, I’ve had a hair cut, I’m fitter than ever before, I’ve cut down on cake, massively cut down my alcohol consumption (although there are other reasons for that too) and even bought new clothes to start refreshing my wardrobe.

Now all I have to change is my face and personality and I’m done.

First day of reasonable hours for about a month, I think. Feels quite good.
