The End of Monk
Another “live like a monk month” has come to an end. I’m quite pleased with how it went. I’ll be continuing for the foreseeable future, I think; although tonight I am planning on treating myself to fish and chips. Rock ‘n’ roll, eh?
So what have I learnt from this one? Well, one of the best suggestions on Twitter I had was to use voucher codes, although I haven’t. Another thing- which I already knew, I suppose – is that a little bit of planning makes all the difference. Shopping once a week, planning meals for the week, getting stuff out of the freezer in plenty of time; all lead to less food waste and more efficient shopping trips. I’d say “don’t go shopping when you’re hungry”, but if you’re anything like me, the only time you’re not really hungry is when you’re asleep, and it’s hard to push the trolley like that.
Buying lunch at the start of the week is also a good idea. Sandwiches in shops are stupidly expensive. For £3 you get two (quite nice) sandwiches, or for a few pence more than that you can get a loaf of bread and enough filler to last three days. I’ve gone from spending about £5 a day on lunch to about £5 a week.
I’m going to continue for the next month (which is also “get fit June”). But first I’m going to look at my bank statement from the last month to see where further savings could be made.
Yeah. I’m that much fun.
