Having a play
I’m playing this afternoon with Drupal, an open-source content management system I’ve seen used a lot – and I know to work well – which I’ve never set up myself before. It’s quite good fun. It’s only on a local installation (I run Apache on my PC to test this sort of thing) but who knows – I may, one day, move one of my sites – probably JuicyFly – over to it.
The only issue I’m having at the moment is getting mail to work from my local installation – I think I need to set up a local mailserver, but I’m reluctant to do so. Other than that it looks a good system to use – if a little complex until you learn the odd terms for pages and navigational elements used.
Any readers with experience of Drupal – and things I should be looking out for – please let me know. I may need help. Serious help.

June 29, 2008 at 9:31 pmWe use Drupal extensively and its a great system. You can do almost everything imaginable out of the box. There are hundreds of modules and it perfectly grows in capabilities with your clients or personal demands. I consider the learning curve quite flat. Once you understand the basic concept you can start using in productive within a couple of days. Basically every content in Drupal is a “node” and the documentation on drupal.org is very detailed. If that doesn´t help the IRC chat will help you and last but not least you can drop me a line of course
