New website!

So this is it - the new Maltpress website. Wonderful design by my colleague Mario Prelorentsos, painstaking coding process by me and Wordpress.

Creating a job sheet

The most popular (and useful) post on my blog: how to create a job sheet in order to organise projects, the best lesson I ever learnt as a freelancer.

Read the post >

I'm a project manager and writer with web expertise.

Basically, that means I make things happen for you on the web, and I keep things simple. I don't use words like "synergistic partnering" or "paradigm". I don't try to up-sell or cross-sell. I just listen to what you want, tell you what might be good or bad ideas, then make it work.

That might mean creating you a web strategy which fits with your other communications - you know, "synergistically". It might mean guiding you through the basics of search engines, social networking, blogging and e-commerce. It might mean building you a site. It might mean managing your existing suppliers. Or it might mean telling you that a website's not what you need. Don't worry - I don't charge for that.

I work with the best suppliers and the best clients. Work is fun. I crawl out of bed every morning and smile groggily at the world; because I know that every day, in some little way, I make the web a friendlier place for someone, some organisation, or some business, somewhere.

Case studies

Working with the great team at Isle Interactive I wrote the copy for this rather trendy-looking site. The Orange Partnership use their extensive expertise and financial wizardry to check out partnership agreements, making sure all the numbers stack up and helping people make the most of agreements.

The content needed to appeal to a number of audiences - from techy money people to decision makers with loads on their plates.

The other challenge was to write an orange-based pun for every page. And to keep them pithy. Oh no, I've done it again.

I worked at EEDA for three years, with responsibility for running their website and online strategy and writing content for the web and intranet. A big part of this work was managing suppliers, from designers to techies, and translating what they were doing to non-technical staff.

In fact, that's often one of the biggest challenges in web project management: translating requirements into functional specs, and translating issues back into normal language for the people paying for the project. It's important to realise that while anything - pretty much - can be done on the web, it takes time and money.

Agency East are a community interest company, sister to my old client (and friends) at Pixelwork and an utter joy to work with. I help Agency East with a number of different projects, based mostly in the public sector. From helping organisations fill in forms to writing speeches, there's an infinite variety of work to do.

We've worked together (and with Pixelwork) on projects for the Department of Communities and Local Government, EXDRA, the Thurrock Thames Gateway Development Corporation and more. We're currently working together on Next Top Boss, which promises to be an incredible project. You'll probably see it on the news sooner or later.

I'm a real Wordpress evangalist and have built many sites (including this one) using it. It's a great blogging platform but also an incredibly simple but powerful content management system. Being open source, it's really well supported, so you're not tied in to one developer, and I can work on existing or new Wordpress builds.

I've provided Wordpress support for sites such as the EEDA blog and Learning Pool's clients, have built blogs in existing site templates for The Foundry House, and have built Wordpress sites from scratch for a number of clients through Isle Interactive.
